Tenesmus Hampshire

Do you keep getting the feeling of needing to go to the toilet to pass a stool but when you try to go, nothing happens? If this is happening to you, then we know that this can be worrying, frustrating and painful. We are here to help you at Basingstoke Colorectal. We provide a range of bowel related treatments and with us, you can certainly rest assured that you are in safe hands with our expert Colorectal consultants.

We will first fully diagnose your problem for you. So, if, for example, you are continually getting the feeling of needing to evacuate your bowels and nothing is happening, then it could be that you are suffering from a condition call Tenesmus. The major signs of Tenesmus are feelings of needing the toilet but unable to go, severe cramping and pain in the rectum, the need to strain harder than normal to only pass a small stool.

Reasons for Tenesmus can vary greatly from Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), through to colon infection, IBS and it can also be a sign of colorectal cancer, however, this is rare. We will thoroughly examine you from the outset to understand what is causing you to have Tenesmus so we can then provide you with the correct treatment.
