Diverticular Disease Hampshire

Are you struggling with intestinal pain and a feeling of bloating? You may be suffering from diverticular disease. Diverticula are small bulges that develop in the lining of the colon, which can sometimes become inflamed, causing the pain and discomfort of diverticular disease. If they become infected, then the condition is known as diverticulitis, and needs to be treated, as it may lead to abscesses. Diverticular disease is common in Western countries, and also in older people, with 10% of those over 40 having some symptoms, and up to half of those aged over 65.

If you are looking for medical advice about possible diverticular disease, you should have a look at Basingstoke Colorectal. This is a partnership of five colorectal consultants who all do their NHS work at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Foundation Trust, and their private work at the Hampshire Clinic. Between the five, they are able to cover all aspects of colorectal complaints, including diverticular disease, from investigation through to treatment, including surgery if necessary. A diagnosis of diverticular disease often needs to be confirmed by a colonoscopy, and treatment may include advice about diet, and painkillers to control the pain and discomfort.
